Iron Man 3 Is Awesome, So Are The Habs

Image
So I've seen a period and a half of this series so far.... unacceptable.  But I did see Iron Man 3 last night to kick off the summer and it was AWESOME! Basically the Sens are in the drivers seat of this series.  Sunday night and Tuesday night are huge.  Montreal needs to win at least one of those games, and both if they want to control this series. Oh, and screw you Sun Media.  Nice front page, assholes! The Canucks are basically done and on their way to being swept out after an OT lose last night. The stupid Maple Leafs sucks and I refuse to watch their game tonight.  I really don't care who wins that series, they both are god awful teams.  If you want to watch a really good game check out the Ducks vs. Red Wings game tonight at 7:30, that'll be a beaut.  Go Saku! And if you're really looking for some exciting action then why not watch the annual Kentucky Derby!  Probably the most intense final 10 seconds in sports.  ...

AngryHockeyFans Playoff Prediction Gala

It seems everyone is making playoff preditctions these days and our friendly little blog is no different. Your one and only AngrySensFan and the other guy (AngryHabsFan) are participating in a friendly challenge to see who is best at seeing into the future of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Heres a breakdown of the rules: For each round we will be choosing the winners of each playoff series as well as the number of games it will take that team to win. To beign the playoffs we will also be choosing the Eastern and Western Champs as well as the Stanley Cup champs ahead of time. Who ever has the most points at when Bettman gets booed wins the challenge: -1pt for picking the correct series winner -2 extra points for picking the correct number of games in addition to the correct team -5 points each for choosing the correct Eastern and Western Champs from the get go. -9.99 points for choosing the eventual Stanley Cup champs ahead of time. Here are our picks: AngryHabsFan EAST: ...

They Did It!

Image
Best Coach's Corner In Years. Well it was a bit of a shaky start but your Montreal Canadiens pulled off what they needed to do heading into the playoffs, beat two Canadian teams.  Last night was pretty awesome, minus the lack of overall drama but hey a win is a win. Now we wait. A Boston win tonight screws everything up and we are sent down to play the Leafs in the first round.  A Sens win and we play the Sens in the first round.  It's tough to cheer for a team that you may have to play in the first round of the playoffs, but for the the next 12 hours we are all Sens fans. I could care less about a Montreal vs Toronto series.  If it happened deep in the playoffs for the East title then ya, maybe that would be exciting, but a first round match up is just plain lame.  The only thing playing Toronto would do is wear us emotionally out for the second round matchup, which may be against the Penguins at that point.  I'd rather play the Sens an...

This Is It

LOSER Tonight and this afternoon will be an outright cluster&@$^.  I can't even begin to try to calculate who we are going to end up playing in the first round.  If we lose tonight it will be the Leafs, simple as that.  If we win and Boston loses their game to Washington then things will get interesting tomorrow night in the finale game of Ottawa vs Boston.  So basically win for drama and lose to play the Leafs.   My heart says lose and sweep the Leafs out in the first round for what would be revenge for every Saturday night game of my childhood living in Ontario.  My sensible self says win and end up playing an easier team seeded way lower than us.  It is going to be an interesting 40 hours ahead.  Oh, and if we draw the Sens in the first round I'd be all over some tickets, so kinda hoping for that too. Gametime is 7PM on CBC. Go Habs Go!

The Week From Hell Is Over

Image
Thank god. We are nearly on a five game losing streak if it wasn't for a lucky couple of bounces Thursday night. What the hell is happening!!  5-1 to the Washington Capitals???  I don't understand why this team is falling apart right now.  If this keeps happening we'll end up with the Leafs in the first round, and as awesome as that would be, I'd rather face the Islanders.  The playoffs are about winning, not fancy headlines. Am I scared to play the Leafs?  Yes.  For some strange reason I have a feeling that the Leafs are going to have a bit of a playoff run this year (meaning second round may be probable). Not only is the streak of AngryHabsFan living on for another week, this was the worst week that the Habs have played this season.  Losing mixed with awful goaltending mixed with having to honor the city of Boston (and rightful so), it has been very odd times in Montreal. This week the Habs are in Jersey, Winnipeg, and Toronto. ...

It's 4-20 & It's Still The Regular Season.

Image
The Leafs will adopt this logo tonight vs. The Sens. Well kids, under the section of your hockey text books titled 'How NOT to finish the regular season' you will find a picture of the 2013 Montreal Canadiens. The loss to the Penguins was expected.  The loss to Philly hurt.  Barely beating Tampa Bay was a disaster.  And the goaltending controversy?  Not helping the drama leading up to what is sure to be a headline filled couple of weeks in Montreal hockey, where of course, the sky will fall. With that being said, can we please beat the Capitals?  And by beat I mean demolish them 5-1 or something?  This team needs some pep back in their step, and if they can destroy the red hot Capitals it may just do the trick.  Plus it's the last home game of the season, so it would be nice to win.  You know, before the Maple Leafs sweep us out of the first round.  Just kidding, but really. When you arrive at the Bell Centre tonight you'r...

Rough Times

Image
Well that was a rough week. I thought they'd kick ass, I thought they'd demolish the Capitals and walk all over the Leafs again, and I thought they'd struggle against the Sabres.  Damn was I wrong, but somehow we clinched a playoff spot?  Cool. 2 out of a possible 6 points this week for your Montreal Canadiens may in fact be their worst week of the 2013 season so far.  The last time Montreal got destroyed by Toronto it lit a fire under them and they went on an incredible point streak.  Will it happen again?  Doubt it. After clinching the playoff spot on Thursday night it looks like this team has checked out, which is scary.  As much as I'd like to see the intensity of a Habs vs Leafs playoff matchup I know things would not go well for us at the ACC.  Looking at the standings right now I'd like to face the Rangers (because they suck) or the Sens (because their little miracle run has to end sometime).  Not the Devils...

HappyHabsFan Lives!

How does one choose? 6 out of 8 points!  The mission is complete!  And what a strange way to do it.  Every goal last night was a total fluke.  The only goal by the Bruins to go in past Price was wobbly like your drunk uncle.  Ryder tipped PK's shot and it bounced down hit the ice, hit a Bruins stick and then proceeded to go top corner.  And Mr. Galchenyuk's goal was just a complete gongshow off a Bruins player trying to make a save.  Wacky but not a bad game to watch.  And violence?  Hardly any, I told you.  The Bruins are scared of Montreal.  When the games are in the Bell Centre they behave themselves, when the games are in Boston it turns into a WWE main event.   This week the Habs take on the Caps Tuesday, the Sabres on Thursday on a special presentation of Hockey Night in Canada, and then the Leafs on Saturday night.  One can assume CBC has some empty time slots for playoff hockey now and intends to use ...

Back Again

Image
Let's recap the week. We were totally awesome and crushed the Hurricanes, we nearly beat the Flyers, we crushed the Jets from 3rd place to 10th in one game (because we're awesome) and we made no stupid moves at the trade deadline.  4 points out of a possible 6 and looking for two more tonight at home vs the Bruins.  Oh Babbbyyyyy. It is about time these two teams met on a Saturday night instead of Wednesday!  Wednesdays are fun, but Saturday night on Hockey Night in Canada has a much bigger feel to it than TSN.  Sorry quizmaster. So tonight at 7 PM these two teams will clash for the last time this season.  The game is in Montreal so don't expect it to out of control crazy, but you never know. Catch the awful Blue Jays this afternoon at 1 PM taking on the Red Sox.  World Series team? Not quite. Oh, and some Final Four action later today as well. Go Habs Go!

Hurricane Tonight

Image
Satellite footage of the Canes travelling to MTL I remember being in high school before the invention of TSN-Habs.  Heck, I remember my time at university and living in the capital where TSN-Habs was blocked out.  Don't they know 68% of people living in Ottawa are Habs fans from before 1992.  The point I'm making is that tonights game is on tv in French only.  It's a RDS night ladies and gentleman.  Some of you will hit mute, some of you will tune into TSN 690 for a delayed english audio feed, and some of you will just have fun with it. My favourite thing about RDS was the Molson Export ads splashed all over the place.  And guess what, they worked!  I actually bought Molson Export for awhile so I could fit in with my fellow fans.  This year it appears as if Coors Light has taken over the product placement role on RDS.  Coors Light isn't very good beer (unless it's summertime, and it's free).  None of this really affe...

HappyHabsFan, Happy Easter

Image
Easter hunt on the ice. Find Crosby teeth. I knew they would they do it.  I didn't know Carey would rebound from Wednesday night and shutout the Rangers.  I'm overly impressed.  Who else are we overly impressed with this morning in Montreal land?  PK SUBBAN!  Helpers on every goal last night, the guy was solid.  Without a doubt he is the BEST offensive defenseman in the NHL this year (take that Ottawa).  Oh, and that guy wearing number 11 seems to be having an amazing rookie year.  Calder Trophy anyone? Over at HockeyInsideOut the mood is similar this morning.  The ghost of Scott Gomez have appeared to vanish, and the Canadiens are finally extracting some revenge on the team that dumped that loser into our line up. Next up is the Hurricanes on Monday night at 7:30.  It's almost a guaranteed win for Montreal.  After Monday your team is off to Philly to take on the Flyers on Wednesday night hockey.  I'd say it ...

Here Comes Pruster Cotton Tail

Image
So Prust is going to return the night we play the Rangers.  Why isn't that a surprise?  Why didn't we think of that earlier?  It makes perfect sense, and he'll probably have a big night.  Well we can hope anyway. Gametime is 7PM on Hockey Night in Canada.  I'm really hoping that other New York team can beat the Penguins today.  We'd still be in first if it wasn't for their 14 game winning streak.  Who even goes on a 14 game winning streak? And why are there so many massive winning streaks this year?  And why do I sound like a cranky old man all of a sudden?  It's Penguins vs Blackhawks for the Stanley Cup this year anyway, everything else is irrelevant. In the meantime we can start to imagine what our playoff run is going to look like.  Sunshine and rainbows until the Eastern Conference Finals.  Oh, and the way Budaj has been playing we may have another Halak in the making for this playoff run ;) It's spr...

It's A Good Friday

Image
'Thank god I'm out of this hell hole' Holy crap.  We just played the two best teams in the East (besides us) and came away with 2 points.  Didn't really expect that, and didn't expect to be sitting in 2nd place on March 29th.  At the risk of sounding lame I won't say Saturday night is a must win, but it's a must not lose. Also, next Wednesday is trade deadline day.  I think we all agree to move Easter Monday to Wednesday next week. Back to the past.  Against Pittsburgh on Tuesday night we played amazing.  If it wasn't for Crosby's perfect goal we probably could have won that game in overtime, the shots were flying like crazy.  And since the Penguins now have acquired the 2010 Canadian Olympic roster why are teams even still trying? Against the Bruins we played pretty well and whoever bought tickets to be at that game certainly got their monies worth.  Fast paced, come from behind goals, a long shootout, a rookie netting th...

This Week Sucked, Repeat It This Week Please

Image
No penalty, because on partial breakaways we dive...  Thank you Toronto.  Thank you for beating the Bruins.  Thank you for your game being 1 minute longer than ours so CBC could tune us all in to see the Bruins lose to the Leafs.  It was a bitter sweet moment in a week that definitely won't be going into the dvd collector edition of Habs games in the 2010's decade. Three of six points.  Sadly, not enough.  I figured last Sunday we'd beat the Sabres in both games easy and drop to the Islanders like flys.  Apparently the opposite happened.  Regardless, we still sit in the same place we did last Sunday at this time, 2nd in the East.  Pittsburgh is going on a run that is basically taking a stab at the Blackhawks streak from the beginning of the season.  They are crazy good, and they play the wounded Flyers tonight on RDS.    So yeah, the Penguins are really good.  Guess who our next game is against ...

Opps, I Missed A Week

Image
So the late evening posts didn't really work out this week.  The only night I was really not super busy was Wednesday night, and it just so happens there wasn't even a Habs game that night.  I saw some of the Sabres game Tuesday, and most of the Islanders game on Thursday.  Overall, it has been a pretty busy week, same for the Habs. We've got 3 points so far going into tonight's game against the Sabres and I really want to beat them.  5 of 6 points in another awesome week would be amazing.  3 of 6 would be a big dud for the first time in awhile.  Also, if we want any chance of catching up to Pittsburgh and reclaiming first place in the East then we are going to have to start a big winning streak.  Let's make it two tonight. For a Saturday it's a pretty light NHL schedule with only 9 games, but then again March Madness has started and after the first round I had a 59% correct rating.  My bracket is in rough shape. Damn you...

Goodbye For Now First Place

Image
Who's Hand Will That Be? I am starting to develop a bit of a problem.  I can't remember the last time I sat through an entire Habs game.  Last night I saw the entire 1st period and Colby Armstrongs goal.  I saw bits and pieces of the 2nd period before being escorted off for the night.  I didn't see any of the 3rd period at all. Heck, I even missed the GSP fight in which he apparently destroyed Diaz in a match that wasn't even close.  It was a good night for Montreal sports and I was buried in the cold of rural Ontario.  Regardless, sometimes other things have to come before sports...or something like that. Moving on, another week gone by and the Canadiens are still holding onto 1st place in the East.  I asked for  four of six points this last week to continue the streak of HappyHabsFan, and we brought home SIX FOR SIX.  Glorious days are upon us.  My daily routine now involves google mapping potential Montreal p...

Big Foot Saturday

Image
Can we all agree the Draft Hats keep getting better each year. The jersey shore better keep there heads up tonight as 6 foot 6 inch Jarred Tinordi is about to make his NHL debut in bleu blanc rouge.  For you Habs fans out there saying we needed to add size all week, you got your answer.  The guy is basically big foot. Since we've been prepping for this game since basically Thursday afternoon there really isn't a lot left to say.  We beat the Devils last time we played them at home on a Sunday night.  This time we're on their turf, and if we want to hold onto first place we better kick some ass. Gametime is 7 PM on CBC Hockey Night In Canada (and for two weeks in a row the Canadiens Hockey Night in Canada game is being played south of the border.) Montreal should only be allowed to play 1. At home on Saturday night. OR 2. Against the Maple Leafs. Just saying. Go Habs Go!

I Hate You Maple Leafs, & Why The Desharnais Deal Is Gold

Image
14 million dollar man Well, thanks for nothing Toronto.  I really thought for awhile you would be able to hold onto that 1-0 lead you had, sadly, no chance.  Crosby worked his magic, once again making Pascal Dupuis look like a superstar and Leafs were downed 3-1.  I wish I had a Crosby at my job that set me up for success everyday.  Damn man. Now next year we wouldn't have to worry about games like this since you make the playoffs based on divisions.  So basically next year is going to be super weird.  Will it feel like baseball, yes.  Will my generation be completely confused? Most certainly.  And how is the wild card going to work?  Is it a one game series, or a full series or best 3 of 5?  I can't find any info on that, help me out interwebs. Oh, and Marc Bergevin signed David Desharnais in what appears to be a fit on insomnia.  14 million over 4 years for 3.5 millon a year.  He'll be 30 when his contr...
