Sens take 2-1 series lead #classy

Image
In maybe the most satisfying playoff game ever for Senators fans the sens dominated play to the tune of a 6-1 victory. After Turris made is a 4-1 Michel Therrien decided to put his tough guys on the ice, Maclean responded with his own 4th line. In the ensuing line brawl the Senators would win 5 out of 5 five with Jared Cowen looking like he could have killed Ryan White if he really wanted to. The chippyness would continue with PK Subban jumping Kyle Turris and then continuing to punch him after he went down. Brendan Gallagher would then do the same with Cory Conacher who was still recovering from Rene Bourque AND Branden Prust elbows. Wow what a game. JG Pageau was the hero scoring a hat trick and being first star. Why? because he lost a tooth ala Carey Price and Craig Anderson. cool With 17 seconds to go and after a dirty 200 and change penalty minutes Paul Maclean decided to embark on some of the greatest NHL trolling of all time and called a time out, afterwards the Senators p...

Sens Habs playoff Extravaganza

Image
Sens Habs playoff series starts tonight. Cool stuff. All anyones talking about is the whole EK vs PK thing. EK who controls the game with his skating and smart plays vs PK who chews up penalty kills and spits them out (Chris Phillips has more even strength points than Subban this season). We shall see what happens. Can Latendresse wake the fuck up against his former french team? Apparently Michalek admitted he isnt playing at 100% so thats not good. How do I think this series plays out? I think Ottawa has a very balanced and sizeable defence and that they will be able to control the Habs small forwards. I think the Senators forwards will need to get some ugly goals and Price and then protect leads the rest of the way. Its gonna come down to special teams really. Both teams struggling a bit on the PP recently and advanced stats suggest that the Senators league best PK is the result of good luck while the Habs shitty PK is the result of bad luck. We shall see. Habs draw alot of p...

Lick my balls

Fuck you to all thy Habs fans, thou shalt pout whence thy Senators torch thy ass. The Karlsson will drink your blood and BBQ your flesh with thy new Weber grill. Finally a new BBQ. Steak season is here ! twitter.com/ErikKarlsson65… — Erik Karlsson (@ErikKarlsson65) April 23, 2013

Whats the deal with bodychecking?

Image
Jared Cowen made his triumphant return to the lineup last night against the Hurricandycanes. He anialated Jeff Skinner coming across the middle of the ice and then had to answer the bell to Chad Larose. Then he had to do it again against "heavyweight" Westgarth. Then he had to deal with Eric Staal and Chad Larose chirping him the rest of the night and an entire team taking runs at him. Then he laid out Tuomo Ruutu against the boards. It was awesome. Methot caught the fire and hip checked a dude too but nobody talked about. Apparently people think Cowens hit on Skinner was illegal but it wasnt, he wont be suspended despite what the guy on the Hurricanes broadcast told me last night. He was  an idiot if you couldnt figure that out by learning that he is a HURRICANES COLOR COMMENTATOR. Wow that was ranty. So anyways Zibanejad scored on a nice feed from Conacher, Michalek scored on a gorgeous toe drag and shot, and Neil scored because Latendress served him up with some gorg...

Unsexy Game Recap: Sens vs Devils

Image
In honour of the AngryHabsFans segment "Sexy Game Recap" I thought I would do a similar segment, although with the Senators earning a dirty, garbage win against the Devils I felt that "sexy" wasnt quite the word I would use to describe them. JG Pageau scores his first NHL goal, tipping in a Colin Greening shot. Does that make her^ a virgin??? Milan Michalek and Daniel Alfredsson are sprung on a 2 on 0. Michalek puts it top shelf in his first game back. Craig Anderson steals a victory as the Senators get outshot 33-11 in the game

Colin Greening Uses His Giant Ivy League Brain, Halts Losing Streak

Image
The Senators won finally, thats good. They play again tonight against New Jersey. Who are missing best player Kovalchuk, and captain Salvador. Also they are playing the undead corpse of Martin "Not Mike" Brodeur. We should be in good shape. Also Milan Michalek will make his return which hopefully means no more Matt Kassian. (Even though he wasnt as bad as usual against the Flyers last night). I thought it was hilarious watching the Kassian-Smith-Neil line last night because you could see the complete unwillingness from Smith and Neil to pass the puck to Kassian, prefering to try and deke through the entire Flyers defence single handedly (which wouldnt be that hard because they suck). A few things: JG Pageau looked pretty good and should get another game in tonight. He also got his first point on the Alfredsson empty netter. Maclean obvy likes him playing him in 3rd period PKs and at the end of a 2-1 hockey game. Alfredssons goal makes him the first player to score ...

Whats the deal with officiating?

Image
The Senators losing skid extended to 5 games after a shitty night in Tampa Bay. The Senators played pretty good outshooting the Tampa Bay Gatorades   but not managing to beat former super tall Senator Ben Bishop enough. The big story of the game was fans and players and everyone pretty much complaining about officiating. Dan O'rourke (he of the "Karlsson is a diver" thinking) called a illegal hand pass on Peter Regin in the faceoff dot giving the Lightning a 2 man advantage for 1:58 which lead to a Tampa goal and an unraveling of the Sens. Replays clearly showed that Regin won the faceoff with his STICK and that O'Rourke made the call from the opposite end of the rink. You would think the guy DROPPING THE FUCKING PUCK would have a better angle on that call. Anyways everyones pissed. Im also pissed but more about the fact that Matt Kassian has barely been a healthy scratch since joining the club despite the fact that he is a horrible hockey player. With the recent ...

Erik Karlsson/The Wolverine Uses Voodoo Spells to Rebuild his Achilles

Image
Its entirely within the realm of possibility that Dr Frink recalibrated Lisa's robot dance slippers into skates for Erik Karlsson. The last couple days have been pretty exciting for Sens fans (despite 4 straight losses) as Rihanna showed some love   and then Senators fans were treated to the following video courtesy of Mark "I guessed his first name" Seguin. He looks pretty good and is skating about 4 months sooner than doctors expected. He may have mutant DNA ala Wolverine  (sorry not that one, Wolverine ) and I could not be more excited as there is a chance that Ill get to see him play before September. There is no denying that Karlsson is the most exciting defenceman to watch in the world and probably top 5 of any position in the world. Sorry Habs fans but the attention Subban is getting for a Norris this year is only because of injuries to both Erik Karlsson and Kris Letang. Imagine a Senators playoff team featuring Karlsson, Spezza, Michalek and Jared Cowen ...

Woah woah now & Senators rink breakdown

Image
We have big time sucky pantsed for the last week or so. Couldnt even muster a win against the Florida Panthers. The Calder Line looks great, the Turris line looks like a pile of garbage featuring The Tenderness eating a chili cheese burrito. Time to get back in the win column or else the Rangers and Islanders are going to start passing us in the standings and we are going to get stuck playing the Harlem Globetrotters Penguins in the first round. Apparently Michalek and Cowen are nearing a return which is good because I can't wait to not see Eric "turnover machine" Gryba playing any more. Same goes for Chris "turnover rig" Phillips who I am still bitter about not trading 2 years ago. way to go GMBM we could have gotten a 2nd rd pick for him now we have a shitty $3mill defenceman. Spezza is not skating yet so thats not a good sign. I think we would see him at the soonest in the second round of the playoffs should we make is there. Unless Maclean is willing to put...

Cory Conacher in Bishop Out

Image
The Sens traded Ben Bishop today for 2nd in rookie scoring, Cory Conacher as well as getting a 4th rd pick in the trade. Most people believe that this was a slam dunk trade for Bryan Murray and that Yzerman got ripped off. I'm reserving judgement until I see if we get the Conacher from earlier in the year or the Conacher thats put up 6pts in his last 16 games. Goodbye to ye old Bishop we hardly new ye. He played really well for us and I'm sure will be a decent starting goaltender in Tampa, despite getting hung out to dry by his defence night after night. With this trade, Yzerman has now traded 2 2nd rd picks and a third for Lindback, realized he wasnt that good and then traded their best prospect and a 4th for Bishop. Yikes thats a lot a picks for a team thats rebuilding. Also Redden got traded to the Bruins and will play with Zdeno Chara again. Lol wait until the Bruins have to choose between them.

HOLY MOLIGINLA! What A Shit Storm Last Night Was

Image
One of the forensic doctors hired by Eugene Melnyk Busy day, busy day. Well The Penguins became the new Stanley Cup favourites last night, oh they already were? oh ok disregard then. Iginla is headed to Pittsburgh and snubs the Bruins, haha thats fantastic. Where will Iginla fit in on the Pens roster? Does he play with Crosby and Kunitz, or with Malkin and Neal? I dunno but I have my reservations about this deal.  Iginla's done well in his career despite never having a true numero uno center with the Flames. The reason? Iginla loves to carry the puck and create his own chances, a role usually played by a teams number one centerman ala Crsoby and Malkin. Unfortunately if Iginla plays that way in Pittsburgh it means he is keeping the puck off the stick of either Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin, 2 much more dangerous players than a 40 year old Iginla. So it will be interesting to see how this new look Pens team meshes together. Cause we all know besides that one goal Crosby h...

News and Thoughts from my Brain

Image
Marc Methot left last nights game against the islanders and has been listed as day-to-day luckily it looks like he might miss one game maximum. Unfortunately that game he might miss is against the Bruins who we have a long shot at catching up to in the standings. The sens are currently 3pts back of Boston (Bruins also have 2 gms at hand) but a win Thursday could really put the pressure on the Bruins who had a very lax first half of the season and face a ton of back-to-backs to close out the year. That means less Tukka Rask and hopefully less points. So we have an outside shot at this. Otherwise the rest of this season could be very boring for Sens fans as its becoming more obvious that we can only finish as high as 5th in the Eastern standings despite having the 6th best record in the league. Yea you read that right. Because Boston and Montreal are so far ahead already its looking like a likely 5th place seeding and a divisional mathcup against one of those teams. Who knows th...

The Pierre MacGuire

Image
Today I discuss my least favourite hockey personality of them all. Sure people like Nick Kypreos, Ron Maclean and Mike Milbury are insufferable but McGuire is just on another level or annoyance. Its been 2 years since he left TSN to focus full time on american networks Versus and NBC Sports where his statements of the obvious are  accepted by the casual fan rather than made fun of by the knowledgable (canadian) fan. It seems only yesterday that he was having full on orgasms for Dustin Tokarski and choosing one player during the World Juniors to have a full on man crush for (Claude Giroux) and another to repeatedly point out his deficiencies (PK Subban). Great play-by-play commentators know when to speak and when to stay quiet. Harry Neale will always be my favourite for his funny comments and for knowing when he can add some insight to a situation and knowing when to let Bob Cole do his thing. Hell as a Sens fan I have to listen to Denis Potvin on a regular basis who...

Hey Hey Overtime

Image
It appears as though the Senators are getting good at playing in overtime what with 8 of the last 13 games going past regulation. Kyle Turris scores the game winner (his second of the game) on the powerplay and there was much rejoice. That goal also means the Senators have a new goals leader! no more Karlsson leads in goals even though he hasnt played since the birth of Christ. Guilaume Latendresse looked awesome today, he was probs tied with Turris as the Senators best player and his line with Turris and Alfie really seemed to click. Once Spezza comes back to form                                     our first line we might actually have 2 scoring lines! yay

Ola me Sens fans. The Sabres are up next

Image
Good evening boys and girls, and by good evening I mean good morning because todays game...IS AN AFTERNOON AFFAIR!!! Today the Sens take on the Sabres in a game that most pundits assume will go to overtime seeing as how we are 1-2-4 in our last 7 games and have gone past regulation time in 7 of the last 12 games. Im assuming Lehner gets the start again since he seems to be a OT magnet and we need the points. Somehow the Senators currently find themselves in 5th place in the East and actually have the 4th best record in the conference (the southeast is a joke of a division). Today we play a very bad team in the sabres so hopefully we can pull out an elusive WIN! What with all the Turris and Smith goals weve been blessed with recently. BTW Zibanejad tied Karlsson for the team lead in goals (at 6) against the habs. Yes Karlsson who last played during the American Revolution. So the Sabres are a hilarious mess of cap troubles. They must be loving the amnesty buyouts they are allowed ...

Canadians, Kassian and the Oilers

Image
Tonight the Sens will play host the the first place (with 2 games at hand on the bruins) Canadiens. The Sens have been able to keep their games real close but have only pulled off one victory in the past 6 games (that was a guess btw don't quote me on it). The main reason for the lack of wins has been a lack of goal scoring. Since you win by scoring more than the opposing team in this wonderful game, it helps when you can score at all never mind more than someone else. Anyways, welcome Matt Kassian who will surely improve the Senators offense. He of 0G 0A for a whopping total of 0Pts. Well done BMurr well done. But seriously he was brought in to drop the gloves ala Matt Carkner, Zenon Kenopka, Bryan McGrattan etc. So probs tonight your gonna see a Kassian vs Prust brawl. Aight. Im thinking Lehner is going to get the start again cause he's been really solid in his last 2 starts but theres still no word on who the definite starter will be. I expect another shootout loss for t...

Don't Worry Guys I'm Still Here

Image
UPDATE: The Sens play the Big bad Bruins tonight. Lehner gets the start, Michalek has a setback so he sits replaced by whiplash specialist Guillame Latendress. Enjoy Hello blogosphere of hockey, the prophet has returned. The Sens broke out of slump against the Rangers the other night in a 3-2 win thanks to Ooh Ah Silfverberg. The Senators were on a streak of 4 straight losses (regulation and OT/SO combined) before this win. More importantly to me? was that even though we lost to the leafs, we scored 4 goals. 4 goals! we hadnt scored more than three goals in a game since Feb 3rd before this game happened. Then we scored 3 goals against the Rangers the next game. Offensive outburst much? Before the leaf game we hadnt scored more than 2 goals in a game in 2 weeks. Yikes. In fact I think were averaging under 2 goals per game with Karlsson out. Not good. On a positive note, how good has Robin Lehner been? hes kept the Sens in games the have no business being a part of and has nabbed...

Before the Puck Drop: Sens vs Charles Wang's Penny Pinchers

Image
This afternoon the Sens visit Brooklyn Long Island to play John Tavares and Matt Moulson. Whats that? the Islanders have other players? Crazy! Luckily for the Sens they get a cahnce to rebound from a tough game against the Flyers against the 13th place Islander, who are 2-8-1 at home. So ya I feel good about todays game. Robin Lehner gets the start and will be up against Nabokov and the anti-government ghost of Tim Thomas. For the last week in Sens land the question everyone has before a game is where are the goals going to come from? Well I will tell you right now. Everyone owes me 20 bucks if I get it right. Lets see $20 x all  8million of our readers= I will not be receiving any money. But I digest , Zach Smith will score his first goal of the season and Jakob Silfverberg will receive a stretch pass from Wiercoch for the game winner. Turris will score an empty netter with 34.3 seconds remaining in the game. BTW Mike Lundin has a concussion after a blatant charge from som...
