Angry Armchair GMs

Welcome to a new segment of the Angry Hockey Fan network. In Angry Armchair GMs we will take a look at some intriguing situations around the league and try to put ourselves in a GMs shoes, trying to create trades, sign free agents and so on. Think of it as career mode for NHL 13 only not a video game. 1. The Avalanche cannot get Ryan O'Reilly to sign a contract with them and are apparently listening to trade offers for him. Does it make sens for your team to pursue him? If yes, who would you give up to get him? Keep in mind that the Avalanche are looking for a roster player and a good prospect. AngryHabsFan Not a chance in the world.  Our team just got finished dealing with a big contractual distraction and we do not need another Pre-Madonna asking for millions of dollars; either now, or down the road.  Obviously a guy like O'Reilly is in it for the $$$, if he actually cared about his team he would have signed a contract by now.  The...

Kesler's Return?

Image
Canucks Look to get Kesler back for tonight's game against Dallas Tonight is the first meeting of the season against the Canucks and the Stars at Rogers Arena.  The Canucks have won six straight and now are starting to climb in the western conference, and the Canucks do not see this streak stopping anytime soon in the future and neither do I. The biggest news about tonight's game is that the Canucks second line center, Ryan Kesler has been cleared to play in full body contact action and may possibly make his 2013 season debut tonight against the stars who will look to end the win streak.  I don;t think there is anyway that the Canucks could lose tonight's game against the stars if Kesler plays.  The team will be so hyped up about Keslers return that anything in their way will get destroyed that includes the Dallas Stars.  This will be another step  in the right direction for the Canucks if Kesler can return which will boost the Canucks lineup.  The ...

Canucks vs Wild Take 2

Image
Tonight the Canucks will take on the Wild again as they look to destroy them like last game.  The only difference in tonight's games from last weeks game is that by the sounds of it Luongo might start in net.  This could go one of two ways either he will be spectacular in net and once again raise hype over who will be the starting goalie, or he will fail miserably like he has in the past against the wild and then Schnieder will get put in net and maybe then the controversy over who will start in net for the Canucks will be over, but I doubt that will happen!  Basically all the Canucks need to do tonight is the same things as they were able to do last game against the Wild, shut down the top line. Really that is all I have to say about tonight's game because if you check out my previous post about the game against the Wild my predictions are going to be basically the same, and the goalie controversy is still the same but only a different goalie is starting the game.

Schneider To Redem Himself In Net Against Wild

Image
The Canucks will look to beat the Minnesota Wild tonight in the first of four meetings between the two teams in this 48 game season.  The Canucks will have much harder of a game against the Wild this season as compared to seasons before with the new acquisitions this year of Ryan Suter and Zach Parise.  The wild have been playing fairly well to start this season off which was expected of them this year. The big story of tonight's game is that unlike the last few games Cory Schneider will start in net tonight for the first time since the start of the season.  It was observed by Cory's agent last week that he was very worried about the amount of playing time that he would get in the next couple of weeks due to the great play of Luongo in his past 4 or 5 starts.  The only reason that would explain the start for Schneider is that Luongo has not played well against the Wild in his career only recording 3 wins and a whopping 9 overtime losses in 14 games. Although th...

Canucks to spoil win in regulation streak!

Image
The Vancouver Canucks are looking to spoil the Chicago Blackhawks six undefeated wins in regulation tonight at Rogers Arena. The Canucks and Blackhawks will meet three times this season. The Canucks will look to break the Blackhawks regulation win streak after they lost in the shootout to the Minnesota Wild who have been doing very well this year after acquiring Ryan Suter and Zach Parise in the off season last year. The controversy over trading Luongo in the last few weeks might have quieted down after luongo has made the last few starts for the Canucks, and has preformed well in both starts allowing the Cancuks to pick up points in those last games.  This will make the goalie situation very complex over the next few weeks depending on how Lu plays in goal and whether Schneider will get a chance to prove himself as the number one goaltender since having a very weak start to the beginning of the year.  I think that this should have no reflection on how Cory plays because o...

Canucks VS Avalanche Pre-Game Preview

Image
The Canucks will face off against one of there division rivals tonight at Rogers Arena. The Canucks have won seven straight against the Avalanche dating back to 2011. Three of those wins have come at the hand of shutouts by both #1 and #35. The Canucks might have an advantage in tonight's match up with the Avalanche due to the injury to Colorado's captain Gabriel Landeskog. Schneider will likely get the nod tonight as luongo played two nights ago against the L.A. Kings and was unable to get the win. Both teams only have two wins on the season with the avalanche having a record of 5-2 and the Canucks having a record of 6-2. Based on this years stats of goals per game, pk, pp%, shots per game, and other relative stats it can be seen on paper that these two teams are fairly evenly matched.  Based on what I have seen from both of these teams this season I would also have to agree with this statement. I believe that the Canucks are obviously the better team, but the way the...

Canucks vs Kings

Image
Photo Credit: Toronto Sun Last night the Canucks faced off in an all out grudge match against the Los Angeles Kings for the first time since being defeated in the first round of last years playoffs. Just like last year at the same time the Canucks are still without certainty in a starting goaltender, and so are the Kings with an  ugly looking captain (I swear I'm not bitter at all) . The Canucks started the game off not well, as the kings were all over them early on in the game, I thought I was having deja vu. Luckily they got the surprising first goal from none other than Zack Kassian who now leads the Canucks with four goals. Kassian has really had to step up his game playing on the first line with the sedin twins . He has shown us that he is able to make up for the skill that has been lost with Ryan Kesler and David Booth both being injured.         The second goal of the game came from none other than Alex Burrows , a person w...
