Sens Recap: Oh No Andy!

Woah now Monsieur Habs Fan, I havent gone anywhere. The Senators pushed thier winning streak to 3 games last night by beating the Rangers in a shootout. Jakob Silfverberg was easily the best player on the ice and seems to finally be comfortable playing at the NHL level.

Other Sens rookie and occasional Iranian Mika Zibanejad scored the game tying goal on the powerplay in the 3rd. I thought he was mostly invisible for most of the night but nice to see him get a goal. Would just like to point out the embarassing powerplay unit the Sens were being forced to play on that goal due to injuries. We have Wiercoch and Gryba on the point with Zbad, Smith and Greening up front. thats a total of 130 career points between them. Not good.

Most significantly during this game we lost the leagues best goaltender (so far) to injury. Anderson was taken down by Chris Kreider in the crease and left the game with a sprained ankle. Bishop finished the game and looked good despite allowing the only 2 goals of the game in half a period + OT. Yes you read correctly Anderson was injured in an actually hockey related way, not by cutting himself in the kitchen. Robin Lehner will get a call up and I expect him to get as many if not more starts than Bishop in the 1-2 weeks that Anderson is out. On the plus side if Bishop plays well his trade value will increase in time for the deadline. Yay (but still sucks that Andy is out).

This now means the Senators are without their top goal scorer, the best defenceman in the entire league, their top point scorer (and 4th overall last year) and the (s far) best goalie in the league. As well as Latendress and Regin and Cowen. Look out Alfie I see a trend here.
Somehow we have pulled out a 3 game winning streak despite injuries. How? Trustache. Paul Maclean has modified his puck possession game plan to limit opposition scoring chances in order to play a more counter attacking style. Its working, Paul Maclean is a god. Again, Trustache.

Will try to post more often!
