Saturday Hockey Memories ~ Saturday May 3rd 2008

Saturday nights in Montreal are a special time to celebrate the tradition of our game.  History, heritage  and culture are binded together for a few hours in downtown Montreal.  There truly is no better place to be on a Saturday night.

This new feature documents memorable Saturday nights at the Bell Centre.  This week we focus in on a game against the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2008 playoffs that ended our playoff run.  At the time it was one of the Canadiens deepest playoff runs in recent history (axed by Halak and the Habs two years later).

Below is CBC's opening montage for the game and it is awesome:

The Canadiens lost the game 6-4 that night and were eliminated from the playoffs ending their magical 2007/2008 season.  It was also the first season that I began blogging about the Montreal Canadiens.  Sorry for that internet.

Price made 31 saves that night, but the Flyers dominated us.  I remember wearing my brand new Carey Price t-shirt and watching the game in a friends living room taking in goal after goal that slid past Price. It was a tough night, but overall, a memorable night in downtown Montreal.

We need not worry tonight when the Flyers arrive at the Bell Centre because Price is sidelined with the flu.  Peter Budaj is getting the nod and the Habs have recalled some dude from Hamilton to back him up.  Things will be interesting.

Gametime is 7PM on CBC.
